Kurtis & Liz Gear

Kurtis & Liz founded EKG in 2013. Originally specializing in equine sales, the business made the switch to 100% horse show services in 2016. The team quickly gained recognition statewide and recently became sought after by groups in both Indiana and Ohio.

Kurtis spent the majority of his childhood on the AQHA circuit. He has over 12 years of experience in a professional IT support environment. As our show manager, he specializes in finding effective solutions, time management, and all things technology!

Liz holds a Bachelors of Science in Equine Business Management from the University of Findlay. She has over 4 years of business communication and corporate event planning experience. As show secretary, her first priority is to provide unparalleled customer service to every EKG client and exhibitor.

Katie Hessou

Katie is a true animal lover and all around horsewoman. Katie and Liz met their sophmore year while attending the University of Findlay and have been close friends ever since. Like Liz, Katie holds a Bachelors degree in Equine Business Management. She also completed their equine training program, with a focus on the western All Around events. She now works as a Customer Care Associate and Surgery Coordinator for Saginaw Valley Equine Clinic.

Katie certainly has a mind for the business and an eye for bloodlines - it seems like she can tell you a little something about every horse that walks into the pen! Katie is Liz's right hand in the show office at the Michigan Quarter Horse shows and we are lucky to have her back on the team for a second season.

Tami Gear

Tami is a veteran of the horse show world, having been an active Michigan 4-H Leader & Club Coordinator for over 40 years. A highly sought-after instructor, Tami loves giving lessons to novice exhibitors and seeing their knowledge grow. As youth exhibitors, her daughter, Kimmy, and son, Kurtis, both competed on the AQHA circuit at a national level. She still enjoys watching Kim compete on her horse, Zipper. And although she never envisioned Kurtis as a show manager, she is not at all surprised to see him flourish in that role. When Tami's not working the shows, she spends as much time as she can with her grandson, Owen!

Tami is a familiar face in the office at our ranch horse shows. She really enjoys meeting people from all walks of life and being exposed to new disciplines.

Kate Pressley

Kate's love of horses was fostered from a young age. As a youth, she was active in 4-H and also competed on the Appaloosa circuit. After a seven year hiatus to attend college at WMU (Go Broncos!) and begin a career at Meijer Corporate in Grand Rapids, MI, she is now getting back into the show ring with her Quarter Horse, Finn. She and her husband, Nick, recently bought their first house and are very excited to have a backyard for their puppy, Dale!

Kate started with EKG in the fall of 2017. She is excited to dive in headfirst this year!

Mary Spaulding

Although somewhat new to the horse world, Mary is no stranger to the service business. Having spent her earlier career in the EMS and fire service industries, she is now a nurse in the Emergency Department. As a result, she really knows people and how to work under pressure! She is excited to bring whatever she can to ensure each client, exhibitor, and team member has the best experience possible at the shows.

Mary is thrilled to be brought on as the newest member of the EKG team. She will make her debut in the entry office this spring at the MQHA Easter Eggstravaganza!

Tom Gear

Tom is one of the top horse show announcers in the region, routinely announcing shows for both the Michigan Quarter Horse Association & Ranch Horse Association of Michigan. Tom owns and operates his own IT company with branches in Watervliet & Stevensville, MI.

Tom brings a lot of knowledge to the table and we are so fortunate to have him on board as the lead announcer for The Little Buckeye & Buckeye Classic this July!
